“You know what the Buddhists say? Don't cling to things, because everything is impermanent.”
“We need to forgive ourselves. For all the things we didn’t do. All the things we should have done. You can’t get stuck on the regrets of what should have happened”
“Don't let go too soon, but don't hold on too long.”
In this section, Morrie highlights the ‘holding’ onto nature of humans - whether it’s their possessions, emotions, relationships, ideas or anything that a human can feel or perceive. When you ‘hold’ you also lose sight of other things that could be important - for example, the choice of working in a stressful job to support family, but one is hardly getting time to be with their family.
Hence, learning the art of letting go and holding on in a balanced way can help one navigate life.
